October President’s Message
Hi Weavers,
We have been contacted by Western Nevada College to participate in a gallery exhibit beginning in January and running into March 2027. The exhibit is in conjunction with the wood workers and the textile artists in Reno. We will be entering approximately 15-20 items, entries will be chosen by October 21st. There will be a reception on Friday, February 5 in the evening. During the reception we could have a table outside the gallery with items to sell and be demonstrating some weaving techniques. We are always looking for new members. If you have a basket or woven wall hanging you would like to enter in the exhibition please provide a photo by October 10th to gbbreno@gmail.com. Include the dimensions and materials used. If your entry is for sale, WNC will take a commission of 30%. If you have questions contact myself or Sue Ann Monteleone at samonte@charter.net.
We are going to begin working on the 2027 class and program schedule at the October meeting. It’s always a dynamic undertaking, but if you would like to teach a project or have an idea for a project you would like to see included in next year’s schedule please attend the meeting, if you can’t be at the meeting please email your wishes to gbbreno@gmail.com. We would also like to include some weekend classes which could either be one or two day classes. So everyone put on your thinking cap.
November will be our Election month, as we are in need of some new Officers, as some of us have become dinosaurs (ME.) When I joined GBB back in early 2000, Eileen Brillant drafted me to become a member of the board and I’ve held most all of the positions since then at one time or the other. I’m so happy that Jennifer Jay has taken on the website and increased our presence on social media--resulting in an increase in new membership. Great job Jen!!!!
We need a new president (I would agree to be V-P as a back-up and mentor), secretary, two new board members, newsletter editors, exhibit and show committee members. I’m excited about next year and the prospect of providing a beginning weaving series for all of our newer members, but everyone needs to get involved in making that happen. Please consider how you can contribute to the GBB family and run for an office or position, sorry there are no campaign funds available.
