Fees: $35 members, $45 non-members, plus $30 materials fee

Required tools: Scissors, tape measure, Kumihimo foam disk (if you have one). If you don’t have a foam disk, you can borrow one for class or purchase one separate of materials. Bring a sack lunch and something to drink.

In this one-day workshop, you will learn how to make a Kumihimo Necklace using Luxury Italian Soutache. Kumihimo is Japanese braiding. Kumihimo encompasses many different braid structures and techniques. Like basketry, the possibilities are endless.

In this class, which is designed for Beginners as well as braiders with some experience, you will learn the Kongoh Gumi braid structure, how to “start in the middle”, attach a donut pendant & how to attach a magnetic clasp. Karen also plans to have demonstrations available so you can try your hand at braiding with beads and braiding on a traditional braiding stand called a Madurai.

The sign up sheet will be available at the meeting on August 3rd or you can contact Karen Huntoon at karen@whataknit.com . Location address provided at sign up. (It is not at Sparks Masonic.) Please note that your payment secures your spot in class. Please indicate “Red” or “Turquoise.” Karen will try to accommodate your first choice. Class size limited to 10.
