Special Workshops

Several times a year, GBB hosts nationally recognized basketmakers for extended workshops.

Nancy Moore Bess

June 8-9, 2007

Nancy will be teaching quick and contemporary baskets with a Japanese influence.  Ms. Bess has traveled to Japan many times to learn the craft of bamboo basketry.  Her baskets also incorporate African and East Indian elements.  Each student will be bale to make about 4 baskets in the two days and, if time allows, she will teach some Japanese packaging techniques.

Tuition will be $99 for both days.  Materials fees will be $20/student for the two days and $10-15 for packaging if time allows.

If you would like to take one of these classes please contact Eileen Brilliant at abrilliantidea@cs.com or by phone at 530-544-5145.

Mary Hettmansperger

August 18-19th

Mary Hettmansperger is a nationally known fiber artist and teacher focusing on basketry, beadwork and metals.  GBB will be lucky enough to host her in Reno for two classes in August of this year.  On the 18th and 19th she will be teaching sculptural basketry and on the 20th a class in Fabulous Woven Metal Jewelry.

Tuition for each student for each day of class will be $55.00.  There will be no materials fees  for the basketry class.  She will ask us to bring our own waxed linen thread and if a student would like to use metal  they can purchase it directly from her.  Materials fees for the jewelry class are $35.00 for a very generous package of materials.

For more information about her work see Mary's website at maryhetts.com oand for more information about details of the class contact Eileen Brilliant at abrilliantidea@cs.com or
